Karen McNee Icossipentarhos passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on the morning of December 2, 2025, with her husband by her side. Karen was born on May 19, 1953, and spent the next 72 years positively impacting the lives of so many across countless pursuits. Whether it was working with computers during her early professional years, being extremely involved in the PTA’s and Band Booster organizations at both sons’ schools as they grew up, or serving countless students and staff at North Oaks/Caraway Elementary in the Special Education department prior to her retirement, her passion for helping others always shined through brightly.
Karen met the love of her life, George Icossipentarhos, in San Antonio and they were married in January 1982. Over the next few years, they would have two sons, Dimitrios and Athanasios, together prior to moving to Round Rock and later Austin, where they resided since 1994. Her husband and children were the absolute center of her life, and she would’ve done absolutely anything for them.
As much as this was true, maybe the happiest she ever was occurred over this past decade as she finally got her wish of having grandkids in her life. Emmett, Aiden, and Elijah brought the largest smiles to her face every time they were around, and she loved seeing them grow up and making sure they had a blast every time they were at her home. Whether it was bubbles, crafts, Legos, or reading books with each of them, she loved every minute of it. There was simply nothing that made her happier.
In addition to her husband, sons, and grandsons, Karen is survived by her sister Carol (Paul) Howard and brother-in-law Nick (Rosemary) Icossipentarhos.
Services will be held Friday, December 12 at 2:00pm at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home (14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660), with Fr. David Barr presiding. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00pm.
Karen will be missed more than words can express by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. She loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace surrounded by light.
