May 2, 1932 - May 11, 2013
Red Patton, dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather and dog lover died peacefully in his recliner Saturday morning, May 11. He was a good friend to many. Down to earth but multifaceted, he was a fisherman, hunter, joke and story teller, and gardener. Red embraced life with gusto, and lived every last second of it the best he knew how. He was a man who could unfailingly be relied on to do what he said he would do when he said he would do it. He was as loyal a friend as can be found, and kept in touch with people his entire life.
Red loved his wife of 58 years Catherine Joyce Patton just as much when he passed as when they were courting back in Corpus Christi, TX. He was a thoughtful man, finding gifts he knew she had liked then secretly buying them to surprise her with later. He was a great daddy and granddaddy as well. He taught his two sons Edd and Pat how to fish, hunt, skinny dip, and most of all be men of integrity who don’t take themselves too seriously. He wasn’t perfect and didn’t expect anyone else to be, but he always did the absolute best he could.
Red was a dedicated fisherman (especially saltwater) as he grew up mostly on the Texas gulf coast. Most of his life he was a barber, with a long stretch of real estate in between. He was also a hunter, and still hunted up until his last year or two. He was an authentic Texas gentleman who wore life loosely, and we were all lucky to have him for eighty-one years.
Red is survived by his wife Catherine Joyce Patton, sister Frances Boatright of Shreveport, son Edd and his daughter India and son Pat with his wife Lisa and daughter Gracie. Red served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy in a Seabees unit stationed in Japan. He and Joyce were also members of Crestview United Methodist Church in Austin.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks at 14501 North IH 35, Pflugerville, TX, (512) 251-4118.
The family asks that floral orders be placed with our dad’s favorite florist: City Florist at 906-A Sam Bass Rd. in Round Rock (512) 248-2545. He bought many arrangements for our dear mother there, and also regaled the gals with many stories. Alternately donate to the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, or another charity.
