LaVerne Bernice Mirtsching of Pflugerville, Texas passed away on December 5, 2013 at age 84. Born in Thorndale, Texas, to Oscar and Ida Heintze, she was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. She married C.L. Mirtsching on Aug 3, 1947. LaVerne raised her five kids but opened her home and heart to numerous others by offering daycare services. She supported her children and grandchildren in their endeavors throughout their lives. She helped C.L. build a business, raise a garden, was always ready to burp a baby, or bake her famous ‘Kaffekuchen’. Her dinner rolls were so good they almost started fights at family gatherings.
She made sure all of her children attended St. Paul Lutheran School for a faith based education. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin, serving her Lord via the Altar Guild. She was a founding member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor, TX. Her calling to help others went beyond the point of self-sacrifice, whether it was providing a safe place for a child after school or providing care for her sister-in-law and brother-in-law when all other options failed.
LaVerne is preceded in death by parents Oscar and Ida Heintze, her husband C.L., and grandson Jay Bleeke. She is survived by her children and their spouses; daughter Candace and husband Fred Bleeke of Walburg, son Bervin of Austin, son Warren and wife Cindy of Ft. Collins, CO, son DeWayne of Walburg, son Derron and wife Sherry of Leander, her brother Marvin, sister Maebel and husband Ed, sister Karene and husband Melvin; grandchildren Mitch, Matt and wife Kerri, Cameron, Shea and wife Donna, Linsey, Sierra and Christiana, one great granddaughter Dorothy Ruth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries designated for The Lutheran Hour Radio Program and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Austin, TX
