She graduated from Holland High School. Laverne married the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) Whited on September 16, 1944, in Liberal, Kansas. She and Tom lived in various cities and towns throughout their marriage, his military service, and civilian employment; she made a home wherever. After Liberal, there was Tonopah, Nevada, Ft. Worth, Texas, Rogers, Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas, Georgetown, Texas, Austin, Texas, Temple, Texas, San Antonio, Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, San Angelo, Texas, and back to San Antonio and Temple, Texas.
They were active members of the Baptist Church and enjoyed having fellowship with their Adult Sunday School class and monthly dinners with the “Supper Set”. Laverne was an avid bridge and domino player. A couple of her favorite memories were traveling to Europe with Tom and later to Switzerland with her sisters. What is most notable about Laverne was her love for her family. She was always active in her children’s activities, was a wonderful cook and homemaker and genuinely loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a professional homemaker.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Heppie Truehardt; her husband, Tom Whited and her brother, William Truehardt. Those left to cherish her memories include her sons, T.R. Whited, Jr. and his wife Karen of San Antonio; Gary Whited and his wife Winona of Duncanville; and Patrick Whited of San Angelo; sisters, Margaret Kyser and Mary Lou Seth of Georgetown; Seven Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
