Lawrence was born in Austin, TX on September 1, 1950, to parents of George Perry Morgan and Mary Ann Sterling. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. Degree in Government. He was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, National Evaluation Systems, Lunar Productions and the Travis County Health Department.
Lawrence was considered one of the top guitarists in Austin. He performed at many of Austin’s iconic music hot spots such as Liberty Lunch, The Hole in the Wall, Joe’s Generic Bar, Saxon Pub and Antone’s Night Club. He recorded and toured with Las Vegas legend Carlos Thompson, Chicago Bluesman Ronnie Taylor, Nashville star Stacy Jade and the late E.R. Shorts. He was a member of the Blues Posse Band and did national tours in the US and Canada, performing at trade shows and various conventions and other engagements representing Austin and was a regular performer at the Navasota Blues Festival. He was affiliated with Lunar Productions where he booked, supervised and performed at recording studio sessions, and acted as liaison for artists on US and Canadian tours.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Sterling Morgan Hayden and father, George Perry Morgan. He is survived by sister, Harvenetta Morgan Franklin (Benjamin) of Austin, TX and brother Darrell James Morgan of Los Angeles, CA. Other survivors include his beloved grandson, Kyle Ostrander, special friend, Sandra Deming and a host of cousins and extended family and friends.
A graveside service for Lawrence will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2025 in the Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery, 13701 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
