Lee Allen “Sonny” Sharpe, 89, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. Sonny was born on November 4, 1935, in Marble Falls, Texas, the son of Lewis Clyde, Sr. and Edith Elizabeth Sharpe. Sonny married Vita Ruth Sikes on August 16, 1958. Later that year, Sonny joined the United States Army and served in active and reserve duty for 7 years. Sonny retired from AT&T after 30 years of service. Sonny and Vita were integral to the founding of New Life Austin, a United Pentecostal Church.
Sonny and Vita traveled extensively across the United States with family and friends. Whatever adventure Vita could dream up, Sonny was ready to make it happen for her and their family. Sonny was a fixer. He had a tool for everything, and he would fix anything for anyone.
Remaining to cherish Sonny’s memory are his beloved wife Vita; children Kent Sharpe (Jackie) and Connie Bernard (David); grandchildren Jonathan Bernard (Sara), Ridge Sharpe, Daniel Bernard (Kalee), Kelsey Sharpe, and Lindsey Chrestman (Cullen); great-grandchildren Elijah Bernard, Shane Lewis, Kaylee Grambort-Sharpe, Adelle Bernard, Rylynn Bernard, Hunter Lewis, Claire Bernard, Elise Bernard, Eden Chrestman, Khristian Bernard, and James Chrestman; sister Ruth Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.
Sonny’s was a life well lived, with deep devotion to God, church, family, and friends. He will be remembered for his quiet strength and servant’s heart.
A visitation for Sonny will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at New Life Austin, 3200 Century Park Blvd, Austin, with a funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with military honors at a graveside service beginning at 1:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
