Walton, Lee Jay, passed away peacefully Monday, December 28, 2020 after an incredibly blessed 97 years of life. Lee Jay was born to Effie and Alfred E. Walton in Jonah, Texas, Williamson County, on November 8, 1923. He was one of five children, three boys and two girls, Vernon Walton (Justene), LaRoy Walton (Irene), Sarah Eastman (Harry), and Effie Lene Woolbright (Jimmy). He and his brother LaRoy and wife Irene have been the sole surviving siblings, and now that honor is passed to Roy and Irene.
After attending Georgetown High School, he proudly served his country in the US Army, having been involved in the second world war at the Battle of Luzon. Towards the end of his military service, he met a young lady who worked for Western Union and became smitten. He married his Opal (Cook) on September 3rd in 1948, and they were blessed with five children, three girls and two boys of which three are still with us.
Jay, as several were known to call him, never truly met a stranger. He worked in the Texas Department of Insurance until his retirement in 2008, where he played the Johnny Paycheck recording of “Take This Job and Shove It” on his way out. He was quick to tell a joke, a story, or play a game of dominoes (42 was his absolute favorite!), living for his time with his family. A very sincere thank you to the staff of Argent Court Assisted Living in Bastrop Texas for taking such special care of him over the last eight years.
Although he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Opal E. Walton, infant daughter Effie, son Charlie, siblings and their spouses, and two grandchildren - James Lee Brown and Cristye Brown, his spirit will carry on. He is survived by brother Roy Walton and wife Irene, daughters Beverley Oaks (Ron) and Debbie Parikh (Nish), son Lee Jay Walton Jr. (Ruth), daughter-in-law Liz Walton (w. Charlie). and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as other extended family members and friends.
