Lee Arthur was born to Beatrice and Eck Nunn on June 5, 1947. Lee Arthur attended schools in Elgin, Texas, and upon turning the age of 17 in November of 1964, he joined the United States Navy. He loved his life as a navy seaman, traveling the seas to Vietnam – China – Japan – Okinawa -Taiwan, Alaska, and Hawaii. Lee Arthur served his country during the treacherous Vietnam War, and upon his discharge in 1969, he returned to Elgin, where he cared for his mother until her death.
Lee Arthur worked for the City of Elgin until one day, a cousin invited him to come to Austin and attend church, where he made a profession of faith and met his Wife Diane Stewart. Lee Arthur married Diane on January 26, 1990, and they were married for 30 years before her death. To their union, no children were born, but Lee Arthur cared for and embraced Diane’s only daughter, grandkids, family, and church family. Lee Arthur loved to Barbeque and always wanted to share food with members of the Dunn’s Memorial Church family. Lee Arthur became known as ‘Uncle Lee’ among the congregation, always willing to share his war stories, and was known for every Sunday immediately following service, making his way to the pulpit to greet the Pastor and get his weekly hands-on prayer.
Lee Arthur departed this life on November 11, 2022, his favorite holiday Veterans Day. His mother (Beatrice), father (Edgar), wife (Diane), and all his siblings (Archie Givens, Dan Givens, Penny Givens, Henry Givens, Leon Givens, Johnny Givens, Willie Mae Simmons, and Cora Givens) preceded him in death.
