Leotta Pearl Blackwell

July 9, 1936January 5, 2021

Leotta Pearl Blackwell passed away at the age of 84 on January 5, 2021 at St. David's North Hospital. She was born the only child to James and Mary Pile on July 9th, 1936.

She was a Wife and Mother, Grandmother, Counselor and loyal friend. In her younger years, she, along with her Mother Mary, ran a sewing business out of her home. Leotta loved children and babysat the little ones of family and friends as well as unofficially adopting a couple that needed her.

Leotta dealt with several illnesses in her life, but she barely ever complained about them. Her motto was to do anything she needed to do to come home to her family. And she did time and time again. She was an inspiration to all to never give up.

She loved her family dearly and her happiest times were when they were all together. Seeing them and when she lost her sight, hearing them brought her great joy.

Leotta would always say “I enjoyed y’all” no matter how long or short the visit was.

Leotta is survived by her daughters, Kim Telfair, Alisa Blackwell, and Tiffany Valgean; her son, Syed (Buck) Majeed; son-in-Law, Wayne Telfair; her grandchildren, Jamal Blackwell, Giselle Nevada, Sade Ward, Ryan Ward, Alexus Valgean, and Hakeem Valgean as well as numerous cousins and friends.

She is truly loved and missed and her passing leaves an unfillable void within her family.

Privates services are planned for Mrs. Blackwell.

All of my childhood memories has wonderful thoughts of my cousin (BabyLee), and her Mother Mary (Aunt Sis) as she was affectionately called by her family! I was blessed to have her as my older cousin, with daughter (Kim) , which I spent many days with at thier home.
She & Aunt Sis, took Kim & I to Macy's Day Parade. Radio city. & the Auotmat for lunches. Her illness never hindered her willingness to have me spend weekends with them.
I had the pleasure of visiting with her via phone the weekend prior to her passing. I'm so grateful & the better for what she & her Mother poured into me. Rest in Heavenly Peace cuz.❤

Her daughter Kim and I have been best friends since grade school and once that happened as far as Leotta was concerned I was family. She had treated me like that forever. She was always there to give advice or just sit and listen. She took care of my babies when I had to go back to work. I was always comforted in knowing there was someone I could go to who cared. I will forever miss her kind heart, but I know God will wrap his arms around her and she will be at peace.

I had dinner with Leotta Blackwell on her daughter Alisa graduation. She had a pleasant personality. I will remember her for her hearty laugh. May her soul rest in Jesus and my God comfort my friend Alisa, Kim and the rest of the families
