Lester Thompson

Lester was born on April 30, 1938, to Nettie B. and Mack Thompson in Travis County. He was raised in Manor and Elgin, Texas. Later, they moved to Austin, where he attended Austin public schools. In his younger years, Lester worked as a sales assistant and delivery person for many of the retail stores of downtown Austin and Morris Williams Golf Course until he moved to Minnesota.

He worked for Cargill as a sales assemblyman for 18 years. He retired and relocated back to Austin in 1995. Here, he met Mary Flemings Williams. They both joined Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church and were united in holy matrimony in June 2001.

He was a diligent and dedicated servant, driving the church van and also served as a member of the usher board until his health failed. He loved his pastor and his church members.

Lester loved spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included: bowling, card games, dancing, and most of all, dominoes. As an avid music lover, Lester was a member of a local band, the Tornados.

Brother Lester Thompson was called home on December 5, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie B. Thompson and Mac Thompson; his Sister Ruby Tribune (Lorenzo Tribune)

He leaves behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Mary Thompson; daughter, Elizabeth Taylor-Wren (Travis), and son, Brian Thompson; Stepdaughter, Rochelle Williams (Christopher); and Stepson, Antoine Williams. Grandchildren: Kendrick Taylor, Jared David West, Nadia Breanne Thompson, Detric M. Williams, Trinity D. Davis, Soley Isabel Thompson, Alvin M. Hill, Sophia Nicole Thompson. Lifelong best friend Eugene Sistrunk, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A Lie in State will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, located at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660, on December 12, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The Funeral Service will take place at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist, located at 3754 Bluestein Dr, Austin, Texas, 78721, on December 13, 2025, starting at 11:00 am.
