Lloydine Lydia Clayton Vinyard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Labor Day, September 2, 2024, at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in Austin, TX. After a courageous and grace-filled battle with pancreatic cancer lasting more than a year, Lloydine laid down her burdens and went to her eternal rest surrounded by the love and care she had given so generously throughout her life.
Lloydine was born to Everett and Elaine Clayton on May 7, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She grew up in Dallas, TX, where she moved with her family when she was 8 years old. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, TX, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. During the course of her life, she taught elementary school in Palacios and La Vernia, TX, got married and raised three children, and worked as a substitute teacher in the public schools and then as an educator at a court reporting school in Austin. Throughout her adult life, she actively participated in her church community at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin, TX where she was a member of the Altar Guild, served snacks during Vacation Bible School, recorded the offerings received from the congregation each week during worship, and a spent a few years as director of the Mother’s Day Out program. In her later years, she was an active, loving grandparent and caregiver to her brother. She enjoyed reading, traveling, watching old movies, and cooking for those she loved.
Lloydine is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerry A. Vinyard of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her brother, Gary Clayton of Austin; her children Paulina Harper (husband Andrew) of Spring, TX, Andrew Vinyard (wife Jennifer) of Austin, and Rebecca Vinyard (husband Filippo Liverini) of Austin; and grandchildren Corwin and Ian Harper, Riley Vinyard, and Coraline Liverini. Lloydine also leaves behind a close-knit extended family including cousins, Denise Polson and Curtis Peterson, brother-in-law Larry Vinyard (wife Naomi) of Pantego, TX, brother-in-law Keith Vinyard (wife Frances) of Seguin, TX, and two nieces, two nephews, and their families. The Vinyard family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Texas Oncology and Christopher House for their exceptional care during Lloydine’s illness and end of life.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 200 W. Anderson Lane in Austin.
In lieu of flowers, Lloydine’s family requests donations in her memory to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, or the American Cancer Society.
