The second of five children, Lois lived in Nebraska and Kansas before the family moved to Robstown, TX. Lois enjoyed a long career as a dental hygienist, working at several military installations, including Bergstrom AFB in Austin. It was there, in 1968, that her supervisor assigned Lois to clean the teeth of a lonely widower, LTC (Retired) Clifford T. Hackard. After a courtship, they eloped and were married in Dilley, TX on January 24, 1970. Lois and Clifford resided in Austin, first at their home on Greenlawn Parkway and then at Parsons House until Clifford’s death in 2015. Lois remained at Parsons House until January 2025 when she moved to Gracy Woods II.
Lois enjoyed crafting of all kinds, particularly knitting and ceramics. After receiving a used computer from her son James Hackard, Lois taught herself to use the internet to assist her in managing her medications, research her Bible studies, and communicate with her family and friends. She also used it to print materials for her weekly Bible studies at Parsons House and to print artwork and articles that piqued her interest.
Lois was a long-time active member of Hyde Park Church of Christ, and of her Bible study and chapel at Parsons House, where she prepared communion elements for as long as she was able. She actively participated in resident activities at Parsons House, including posting calendars of events and daily menus. Lois was the embodiment of the commandment “love thy neighbor as thyself”. That love was returned by the residents, management, staff, caregivers and other employees at Parsons House and later at Gracy Woods II. Our family will be forever grateful to the Staff at Parsons House and Gracy Woods II, as well as the caregivers and staff at Halcyon Home Care and Hospice, for making Lois’s last years as full and comfortable as possible.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Berlin and Iva Good; her husband, Clifford T. Hackard; son, Edward Scott Hackard; grandson, Andrew Scott (Andy) Hackard; siblings, Joe and Helen Good, Nettie Ruth and Dave Hoskins, Jean and Vic Lodivic, Robert “Bob” and Vivian Good; and nieces and nephews, Lynn Hander, Richard Hander, Jim Good and David Hoskins.
