Lorraine Black, a woman who loved deeply and who was both soft and powerful, passed away on May 26, 2015. At age 82, she died peacefully from extensive small cell lung cancer, in the comfort of a place she called home.
No one magnetically attracted so many people of every stripe as Lorraine. She was as feisty as she was gentle, delicate as she was strong and humble as she was extraordinary. Her laughter was contagious and delightful even after a little snort was let astray. Even through these last six weeks, she withstood it all with an outrageous sense of humor and bravery. No matter how long or how little Lorraine was in someone’s life she had an impeccable power to touch so many hearts and souls she encountered.
Lorraine is joining her deceased son, Richard Gauthier of Leander, Texas and is survived by her children, Dan Gauthier of Orlando, Florida; Billy Gauthier of Seattle, Washington; Steve Gauthier of Round Rock, Texas; Carol Boyd of Pflugerville, Texas; Donna Atwood of Johnson City, Texas, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lorraine, also known as the “bell lady,” enjoyed playing Bingo, where she could enjoy the company of her friends, the getting out of her house, and the occasional bell ringing when she hit the jackpot. She spent her spare time with her word find puzzles that brought her relaxation and comfort and last but certainly not least, she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Jessica Bacon. Whether it be from occasional phones calls where they shared “nerdy jokes”, or going to their favorite restaurants, or even Lorraine’s last manicure given by her granddaughter, which she was beyond ecstatic about.
Lorraine Black will be greatly missed and remembered by all those who loved her and so many who had their own lives touched by this extraordinary woman.
A memorial service remembering Lorraine will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
