Born and raised in Warrenton, Lucille grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that would guide her throughout her life. A confirmed Lutheran, her faith remained an important foundation throughout her life. As a young woman, she moved to Austin, where she worked for many years as a waitress at the Liberty Café in downtown Austin. It was there, in July 1950, that she met the love of her life, David Mull. Their romance quickly blossomed, and they were united in marriage only 6 months later on January 4, 1951. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion to one another.
Lucille dedicated much of her working life to serving others. She worked for Austin Independent School District for nearly 30 years as a cafeteria cashier and assistant manager. Through her kindness, reliability, and warm spirit, she became a familiar and caring presence to countless students and colleagues over the years. During her career with AISD, she continued serving her church community as a bookkeeper for St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin for more than ten years.
Lucille's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose home and heart were always open to those she loved. She played a special role in helping raise her grandson, David Armstrong, whom she cherished deeply.
Her compassion extended far beyond her own family. Lucille volunteered at Home of the Holy Infancy, where she lovingly cared for newborn infants awaiting adoption. Through her service, she helped nurture and comfort at least seven babies during the earliest days of their lives, offering them warmth, care, and love until they found their forever families.
Lucille also enjoyed an active social life and treasured the friendships she made through bowling. She and David were members of a bowling league during their younger years, sharing many happy times together on the lanes. After David's passing, Lucille continued bowling well into her eighties, a testament to her independence, determination, and love of staying connected with friends and community.
In addition to her many acts of service, Lucille found joy in caring for others through her talents and hobbies. She loved baking for family, friends, and neighbors, often sharing homemade treats with those around her. She was also an accomplished quilter and crocheter, creating beautiful handmade gifts that will continue to be treasured by her loved ones for generations.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Stanko and Dianne Collins; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon Henry Cordes and Glennie Louise Oetken Cordes; her sister, Marilyn Toole; her brother, Weldon Cordes Jr.; her beloved husband of many years, David Mull; her son, David Rolf Mull; her daughter, Virginia Kay Kohler; and her sons-in-law, Edward "Rusty" Kohler and Lonnie Ray Collins.
Lucille will be remembered for her strength, kindness, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family and community. Whether serving meals to schoolchildren, caring for infants in need, supporting her church, baking for loved ones, crafting cherished quilts and crocheted gifts, spending time with family, or enjoying time with friends at the bowling alley, she gave generously of herself and touched the lives of many. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, both within her own family and through the children whose lives she touched through her volunteer work.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her love and influence will remain with them always. The family celebrates a life well lived and gives thanks for the many years, memories, and blessings shared with Lucille. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
