Born on April 12, 1948, in Leyte, Philippines, Lucy was the heart of her family. She was known for her incredible Filipino cooking, her quick wit, her unmistakable sass, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She had a generous spirit and a way of bringing people together that made every gathering feel special.
Lucy attended Far Eastern University before making the journey to the United States in search of new opportunities for herself and her family. After settling in California, she devoted herself to raising her children and building a life rooted in hard work, sacrifice, and love. One of the most important lessons she taught her children was the importance of family. No matter what happened, she always reminded them to stay close, support one another, and put family first.
Years later, a work opportunity brought Lucy to Austin, Texas, where she met Duane Miller. Although she later returned to California, the connection they shared endured. She eventually returned to Texas, where she and Duane built a life together and created a home for the family she loved so dearly. Over the years, that home became a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Together, they spent nearly forty years side by side, sharing life's joys and challenges.
Lucy loved having people around her. Her home was always open, her kitchen was always busy, and no one ever left hungry. Some of her family's favorite memories were gathered around her table, sharing pancit, lumpia, and stories. If there was a family gathering, there was a good chance a karaoke microphone wasn't far away.
While she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, she especially loved being a Lola. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and was famous for turning family get-togethers into mandatory talent shows, where she was always the loudest cheerleader and the most enthusiastic judge.
Lucy is reunited with her parents, Angel Reyes Sr. and Ladislawa Reyes, and her beloved older sister, Helen.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Miller; her son Alex and wife Cindy, her son Jose and wife Rosa, her daughter Annie and husband Orlando, her daughter Amanda and husband Chen, and her son Jordan; her grandchildren Noelle, Cameryn, AJ, Cera, Jeni, Kobe, Atticus, Kira, and Mileena and her husband, John; her great-grandson, Hollis; her brother, Angel Reyes and his wife, Liz; and her beloved cats, Molly and Alice.
Lucy will be remembered for her cooking, her laughter, her karaoke, her advice, and the fierce love she gave so freely. While her family will miss her deeply, they find comfort in imagining her surrounded by loved ones, singing "La Isla Bonita" with a microphone in hand and watching over the pamilya she worked so hard to build.
