Lupe Esparza, age 92 of Austin, Texas, passed away April 27, 2020. She was born on July 7, 1927 in Staples, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Isabel and Dolores Perez; loving husband of 42 years, Gregorio (Jimmy) Esparza; daughter, Linda Ann Esparza; brother, Isabel Perez; sister, Juanita Espinosa and sister, Antonia. She is survived by 8 children: son, Danny Hinojosa and wife, Esther, of California; son, Edward and wife, Joyce Esparza, of Austin; daughter, Irene Reyes of Buda; son, Larry and wife, Margaret Esparza, of Buda; daughter, Sylvia and husband, Ernest Zamarripa, of Buda; son, Harry Esparza, of Kyle; daughter, Dolores Esparza of Kyle; and daughter, Carolyn and husband, Daniel Hernandez, of Buda. She also left behind her sister, Susie Estrada, 17 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
Lupe was a prayer warrior, faithful to God and faithful to the church. She was kind, selfless, generous, a woman of class, elegant, resilient, integrity, up righteous, virtuous, loyal, respectful, empathetic, and a protective person with a heart of gold and gave amazing advice.
She had the most beautiful smile and a very contagious laugh and a great sense of humor. Her favorite games were Wahoo and Dominoes; she loved family game nights because she always made sure she won, if you know what I mean. She raised her grandson, Joshua Salinas, as her son. She was able to babysit her grandchildren with joy and was made Great by her great grandchildren of whom she got to hug, hold and kiss. She had a perfect aim throwing the chancla due to her younger years in being a baseball ambidextrous pitcher hitting her target easily with either hand. When her children were young, she was the seamstress of the home and would make an outfit for everyone for every occasion. She would go shopping at Humpty Dumpty and would select her flour and bean sack materials to match, to make our clothes. She was a resourceful woman making short sets for the boys, dresses for the girls and even made underwear. She always welcomed everyone into her home and made sure they were all fed until they were contently full.
She held a few jobs in her life. The one she favored most was being a Travis County Constable. Mom and Dad had a lifetime PTA membership at Metz Elementary. Mom also volunteered at Metz Elementary in the cafeteria as a monitor. She made sure that those unfortunate children whom could not afford lunch would still be fed daily, even if it came out of her pocket. She also took a sewing course at St. Edwards University and was awarded top honor of her class.
We would like to thank Texas Home Health Hospice for their tender care of our mom. There were numerous nurses and chaplains that assisted along with their equipment to ease the caring of our mom.
