

Mabelle Weatherspoon West, a military-spouse and a retiree of the Quality Assurance Department at the Motorola Facility in Austin, Texas, went to be with the Lord at age 70 on July 10, 2012. Born on July 4, 1942 in Baldwin, Florida, Mrs. West was a passionate and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
After completing high school Mabelle married Richard West in Miami, Florida on October 27, 1963. They shared 48 beautiful years together and were proud parents to three children: Kenneth, Valerie and Carletha. Mrs. West led a very full life. She enjoyed traveling which included living abroad and visiting many different countries. Her favorite pastime was bowling and she competed in over twenty-five annual national bowling tournaments. Her main passion however was for her family. Mabelle’s four L’s of life were: Lord, Live, Laugh and Love.
Mrs. West is preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Mattie Evans; mother, Lovenia Williams; and father, Charles Henry Weatherspoon.
She leaves to cherish wonderful memories and a zealous legacy: her husband, Richard Dean West; brothers, Henry Weatherspoon of Miami, Florida and Franklin Weatherspoon of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Carletha Jennings of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Mattie Stewart of Miami, Florida; SBC, Beverly Jean Carter; son, Kenneth West and his wife Jacqueline of Corinth, Texas; daughters, Carletha West and her husband Paul Hewes of Sugar Land, Texas and Valerie West of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Marcus West of Boise, Idaho, Kimberly Pratcher of Lewisville, Texas, Deanna West of Pflugerville, Texas, Zina Southhall of Austin, Texas, Lavenia Hewes of Sugar Land, Texas, Olivia Hewes of Sugar Land, Texas, and Cecil Whitmore III of Houston, Texas; and great-granddaughter, Kaya Lee of Lewisville, Texas. Mrs. West also leaves many other family members and friends to honor her life.
The family will receive guests for a visitation to be held in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by reception and fellowship. An escorted procession will leave Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home at 12:45 to Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas for committal services at 2:00 p.m.
