Margaret Alice Gleiser Tolbert died on February 11, 2015, following a brief illness. She was born on May 8, 1920 to Margaret Ruth Hayes and Arlis Warren Gleiser in San Antonio, Texas. Margaret graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts in Geological Sciences. Later that same year, she married Charles Walter Tolbert. Their union would last for nearly 46 years.
Margaret was an avid gardener, bird watcher and lover of all wildlife. She had a strong passion for social justice and protection of the environment.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Genevieve Adele Poerner. Having been a resident of Austin since 1945, she will be long-remembered by her many friends and neighbors.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 10 am Saturday, February 21, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Austin. Guests are encouraged to stay for a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
