Marian Hazel (Hanson) Rutherford passed away on April 18, 2016 at the age of 99 at Trinity Care Center in Round Rock. She was born on December 17, 1916 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Sigurd E. Hanson and Verna V. (Adolf) Hanson. Her father was from Norway and her mother was from Wisconsin, where they met and then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Marian graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City in 1935. She was a hostess for the USO during World War II, where she met William "Bill" Chaney Rutherford at a function at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. They married after the war on June 7, 1947 and moved to Bill’s home town of Whittier, California. Marian also served with the Red Cross and as a “Pink Lady” hospital volunteer. She moved to Round Rock, Texas in the Spring of 1981 to be close to her daughters and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her five siblings, Alice Gertrude Hall, Ruth Vivian Williams, Ray Edward Hanson, Sigurd Edward Hanson, Jr., and Edna Earle Cook. Her beloved husband, William Rutherford passed away on December 13, 2005.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Mary K. Papini and husband, Bob Koenig of Aubrey, Texas and Deborah S. Phillips and husband Stephen Phillips of Round Rock, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Curtis Roush, Courtney Roush, and Nic Phillips, all of Round Rock, Texas; her sister-in-law, Donna Hanson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Family and friends are invited to gather at a visitation on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
