Marie Armandina Castro Garcia, 97, passed away on August 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 30, 1929, to her father, Don Aciona Castro, and mother, Felicitas Hoyos.
Marie graduated from Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948. She married Robert Garcia on March 6, 1959, in Port Arthur.
Following their marriage, they established their life together in Port Arthur. Marie and Robert moved their growing family to Austin, Texas in 1963. She worked for the Austin Independent School District at John H. Reagan High School as an administrative professional, among other jobs.
The Garcia family were members of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin.
Marie is predeceased by her parents, her husband and former daughter-in-law, Audrey Ann Alvarez. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Consuelo Diaz, Esperanza Moreno, Rosalie Sassine, and Vera Gaona; and her brothers-in-law, Santiago Diaz; Vicente Moreno, Charlie Gaona, George Sassine, Victor Calamia and Byron Ready.
Marie is survived by her children, Elizabeth Lynn Garcia of Pflugerville; Gavin Lance Garcia and wife Donya of Austin; Kenneth Garcia and wife Penny of Round Rock; and Brian Garcia and wife Friendgela of Hutto.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Dora Ready of Vidor, and Marie A. Calamia of Groves; and her brother-in-law, Guadalupe Garcia of McKinney.
In addition to being survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Marie’s grandchildren include Anthony Ray Garcia of Austin; Allison Garcia of Dallas; Victoria Ann Garcia and partner Corey Ostrove of Albuquerque; Jordan Garcia and husband Anshu Gupta of Pflugerville; Madeline Garcia of Round Rock; Michael Alvarez of Pflugerville; Katie Corby and husband Conrad of Waco; and Kelly Sweet and husband Brandon of Jarrell. Great-grandchildren include Emma and Caroline Corby of Waco; and Evelyn, Charlotte, Jackson and James Sweet of Jarrell.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, at 9:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville. Liturgy and Rosary Prayer Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville.
