

She married the love of her life Eugene Kluckhohn on August 7, 1943 in Red Bank, New Jersey while Eugene was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Eugene and Marie were married for 56 years before his passing in 1999. Marie received a teaching degree from Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She taught K-8th grade in a one room country school near Klemme, Iowa for three years. In 1953 Eugene and Marie moved to Austin, Texas. They were charter members of St. Paul’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church where they both served as church Elders. She taught Sunday school and participated in Women’s Bible Study groups. In later years, Marie became a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Austin. When her health began to fail she was always expressing her gratitude for the love and blessings that she received throughout her long life.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Smith and husband Leroy of Leander, Texas; son, David Kluckhohn of Austin, Texas; daughter, Sheila Horne and husband Frank of Canyon Lake, Texas; daughter-in-law, Uthai Kluckhohn; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:45 am on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 22, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery all in Pflugerville, Texas.
