

After moving to Pecos, Texas, the family moved to Key West, Florida, where her father was stationed while serving in the U.S. Navy. When World War II ended the family moved to Austin, Texas. Sue graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and then graduated from the University of Texas with a B.S. in Teacher Education in 1957. From there she taught Special Education at the Austin State School for ten years.
While teaching, Sue continued her education and graduated with a Masters in Education/Psychology in 1964. She then taught seven years with the College of Education at the University of Texas in Austin. As the grant came to an end, she taught third, fourth and fifth grade for 18 years with Austin I.S.D., retiring in 1996.
Sue loved to read, sew, crochet, garden, go to the beach and play card games. She was baptized at 13 years old and has been a member of Oakwood Baptist Church since moving to New Braunfels in 2002.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Carl Hurley and Dortha Inez Hurley; her husband, Tomas Rudolfo Hinojosa; her two older brothers, Jimmie Keith Hurley and Frederick Doyle Hurley; and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Davis.
Sue is survived by her four children, Michael Scott (wife Betsy), Sandra Michelle, Tomas Ricardo and Rebecca Dene (husband Darren); eight grandchildren, Amy Elisabeth, Jason Allen, Daniel Scott, Dillon Scott, John Mishael, Abigail Bridey, Darren Michael Jr., and Luke Anthony; and five great-grandchildren, Willow, Jovie, Davina, Selah and Silas (and another baby on the way in April 2026). Sue also had several nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Following the service she will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sue's honor can be made to the charity of your choice.
