Marilyn S. Smith, age 84, a long-time resident of Austin, Texas, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. She was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, February 5, 1933. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emma Elizabeth and Carl Winters, and her son, Jeff Smith.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Glen Smith; children David Smith, Brian Smith and wife Helen, Glen Smith Jr. and wife Bobi, Elizabeth Gomez and husband John; grandchildren Kristin Montgomery, David Smith, Erin Smith, Hannah Smith, Blake Smith and fiancé Brittany, Travis Smith, Holly Smith and Jonathan, Jennifer Milian and husband Alex, Amanda Bess and husband Scott, Heather Smith and Juan, Megan Heimbuch and husband Tommy, Victoria Gomez; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was an avid gardener. She won the “Gardner of the Year” award several years in a row from the garden club where she belonged. When others had plants that were on their last leg, we would take them to her so that she could talk to them, and nurture them back to a strong and healthy plant. Marilyn was nurturing not only to the plants in her life, but to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was everything to her. As the center of the family, she set a great example and helped to mold the lives of all those she so loved.
Marilyn’s life was a gift and blessing to all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. There are no words that the family could use to convey their love and gratitude for all that she did for them. Marilyn walked closely with the Lord and was the embodiment of beauty and grace. Her family knows she has a very special place in Heaven next to her Lord and Savior.
