Marilyn Arlene Snipes, 75, died at home on December 21, 2016, and winged her way to God like a butterfly on a light wind. She was born in Corsicana, Texas on December 13, 1941, and lived in Waco before moving to Austin with her family. She met her husband, Ronald Snipes, in Waco where he also lived before he also moved to Austin. They eventually wed in Waco on October, 21, 1961 but continued to live in Austin.
As a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church for over 40 years, she taught children’s Sunday school, sang in the choir, and sometimes filled in on the piano. Over the years, she worked for the General Land Office, was a founding employee of the Texas Association of Counties, and later worked for Applied Research Laboratories at the J.J. Pickle Research Center. In order to occupy her time after retirement, Marilyn joined AARP Chapter 2700 where she volunteered for various officer positions, including that of president, traveled with the AARP Chapter 2700 travel group, served as the President of Austin Area AARP Community Team, became an excellent cake baker and decorator, chauffeured her grand-daughters from activity to activity, and engaged in many community service activities.
The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus and Judy Walker who assisted her husband in taking care of her during her last few months so she could stay at home during that time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Ray and Erma Custer, and her brother Jim Custer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Ronald Snipes; brother Terry Custer; son Robert Snipes and his wife Terry; daughters Holly Reese and her husband Michael, Velma Fuller and her husband Jerry; granddaughters Tara St. John and her husband Dylan, Emily Schlueder, Christina Reese, and Katie Fuller; great granddaughter Braylee Warren.
