December 14, 1937 – July 6, 2025
Martha Ann Chitwood, age 87, passed away peacefully July 6, 2025.
Born December 14, 1937, in Bryan, TX, to W.C. and Jimmie Stuart, Martha was a woman of quiet strength, deep devotion, and lifelong learning. She earned bachelor's and master’s degrees in education from Baylor and Sam Houston State, as Texas A&M did not admit women at the time. Despite that, she remained fiercely loyal to Texas A&M throughout her life, proudly cheering on the Aggies every chance she got.
Her passion for education and nurturing others extended far beyond the classroom. Martha dedicated her life to family as a full-time, stay-at-home wife and mother. She was the steady heartbeat of her home, cooking three meals a day and driving countless carpools. Her gentle smile, quick wit, kindness, and tireless acts of service left a lasting impact on her children, their friends, and later, her beloved granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Chitwood; parents, W.C. and Jimmie Stuart; and grandchildren, Kinsey and Ryan Vandermeer.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Chitwood; daughter, Melissa Vandermeer (Tim); and granddaughters, Kallie and Maryn Vandermeer, who brought her immeasurable joy.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at: Cook Walden/Capital Parks (14501 N Interstate Highway 35, Pflugerville, TX.)
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Martha’s memory to: Trinity Care Center 1000 E Main Street, Round Rock, TX 78664
The family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Care Center of Round Rock for their kindness, love, and support. Their compassion made a lasting difference during Martha’s final chapter.
