Martin V. Lucas III

A proud retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force, Marty served his country with distinction for 24 years, concluding his military career at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. Following his military service, he worked at Texas Workers Compensation Commission. Marty was the Manager of Safety Education and Training. Marty supervised ten training specialists who wrote and taught occupational health and safety courses to thousands of Texas employers and employees. He was responsible for saving citizens from injuries and deaths in Texas!

Marty’s warmth and loving devotion left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Friends often reminisced about what a great guy he was, frequently recalling his humorous spirit during his days in the Lubbock High School Band. He graduated from Lubbock High School and received a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

As a neighbor, he was second to none. Marty had a rare gift for making a neighborhood truly feel like a family, always there with a warm greeting or a thoughtful conversation. His door and his heart were always open, earning him the deep affection and gratitude of everyone who lived alongside him.

His devotion extended just as deeply to his church family. A faithful and active member of Unity Spiritual Center Pflugerville, Marty brought an encouraging spirit and genuine joy to every service and gathering. His presence was a quiet comfort, and his steadfast kindness made him universally beloved by fellow parishioners. And his coffee making skills were always deeply appreciated.

To know Marty was to feel welcomed and valued. Whether hanging out in the front yard or with a cup of coffee on Sunday morning, he brought light into every room he entered, and he will be deeply and dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Above all, Marty was defined by his devotion to his family and the unique bonds he shared with each of his children. He helped shape Shawn into the musician he is today by sparking his passion for music. As a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, he assisted not only Shawn, Brian, and Kevin, but also many young men in the troops he served. Through scouting, he instilled the desire to be of service to others. Brian continued that role as a Fire Fighter with the Pflugerville Fire Department. Shawn serves as an operating room nurse. Marty started the Explorer Post with the Pflugerville Fire Department to share those same feelings of service with Heather, who is a teacher, as well as passing on his deep love and knowledge of history.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Teri Lucas; his sons, Shawn Lucas, and Brian Lucas with his wife Linda; and his daughter, Heather Lucas. He was the proud grandfather to Quentin Lucas, Ziggy Lucas, Ava Lucas, Evynn Lucas, and Ian Smith.
