January 3, 1992 – June 3, 2026
SPC Michael Austin Johnson, 34, passed away on June 3, 2026, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his military service, he earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, NATO Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge. His service reflected the courage, loyalty, and selflessness that help define the man he was.
After his military service, Michael poured his creativity into music. As a member of Tribe Mafia, he was considered the group’s secret weapon. Never chasing the spotlight and often choosing to stay behind the scenes. He helped write and record music, collaborated with other artists, and had a unique ability to help people bring their vision to life. Whether he was writing a song, shaping an idea, or offering encouragement, Michael had a way of helping others become the best version of themselves. His work was featured on syndicated television shows, but his true impact was felt by the people he inspired along the way.
More than his accomplishments, Michael will be remembered for the joy he brought to others. If you knew Michael, you probably have a story that starts with a laugh. He loved cracking jokes, having fun, and making people smile. He had a way of lighting up a room, bringing people together. Michael gave selflessly, loved deeply. He rarely asked for help but he never hesitated to help someone else in need.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of service, creativity, laughter, and lots and lots of love.
He is survived by his father, Retired Chief Warrant Officer Joshua Johnson; his mother, Angelita Flores US Army Veteran; his stepmother, Atasa Johnson; his sisters, Maria McGee and Tanya Johnson; his brother, Andrew Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Arron McGee and Rajon Mack; his nieces, Keona McGee, Ky McGee, Jade Mack, Alana Mack, and Zia Mack; his nephew, AJ McGee; along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
Michael was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although his time here was far too short, the impact he made on the lives of others will continue to live on through the memories, laughter, music, and love he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Michael’s honor to the PTSD Foundation of America.
The United States military will be holding an honorary ceremony to recognize Michael’s service and military accomplishments. Details regarding the ceremony will be announced at a later date as the family awaits confirmation from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
