Mike D. Castillo, 81, of Austin, Texas, passed away December 27, 2023 with his beautiful wife Elisa of 55 years, and family, at his side. Mike was born in Austin, Texas on September 6, 1942, to Ms. Josephine Castillo. He grew up in Austin, graduated from Johnston High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. Soon after completing his service, he began working for Texas Electric Cooperatives where he was employed for more than 30 years as a Winding Department Supervisor specializing in repairing substation transformers.
When you think of Mike, you might almost instantly think of the family man he was. You would remember how he spent time each weekend calling and visiting family members or checking in on the kids. You would also recollect the many weekend trips with Michelle and Michael that were centered around bowling tournaments all over the state. Mike also never missed an opportunity to stop with Elisa and grab a Happy Meal to surprise the grandkids at school with a special lunch. It was the simplest of pleasures that brought great joy to Mike. He loved cheering on his Longhorns at football and basketball games and counted down the days each year to the annual, family Texas/OU weekend trip to Dallas. He enjoyed visiting his son and family out in the country where they would walk outside taking in God’s beauty. Being with family was his greatest joy and his memory will endure through the lives he touched and the bonds he forged along his 81 year journey on this Earth.
Mike is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Elisa, three children, Michelle Castillo, Michael (Rachel) Castillo, and Denise (Frank) Zuniga and grandchildren Matthew, Gabriella, Madelyn, David, Joseph, and Victoria. He also leaves behind siblings, Janie Jackson and Alfred (Mary Alice) Castillo. Mike was welcomed into heaven by mother Josephine Castillo, father Donancio Perez, and siblings Helen (Richard) Hernandez and Gloria (Patrick Sr.) McManus.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A rosary prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the funeral home chapel. He will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
