Today we remember the legacy of a life filled with faith, boldness, and compassion. Myslie Hyppolite, daughter of the late Neovil Hyppolite and Leda Joseph, was born on December 27, 1959, in Arniquet, Haiti. She was summoned into the presence of our Lord and Savior on April 12, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Les Cayes, Haiti.
Myslie was known for breaking the mold by exceeding expectations set for women in her home country. She excelled as a journalist for Radio Lumière and made a name for herself. When that chapter closed due to tensions with the Duvalier regime, she settled in the U.S., where she again exceeded expectations by thriving as a nursing student despite English not being her native tongue. Shortly after she began her nursing career, she became what she desired most—a mother. Having always been an individual who worked hard, she beautifully balanced this with motherhood. Despite working many hours, she dedicated herself to her children, Tamar Dasse and Othni Dasse. She devoted her time to ensuring that her children knew who Jesus is by taking them to church every Sunday and making sure they attended Awana every week. She made every possible sacrifice to ensure that her children were well-rounded and had opportunities that she did not have growing up.
In addition to ensuring the best quality of life for her children, she did the same for others. As a servant of the Lord, she devoted time to serving her family, her patients, the Haitian community, and even strangers. She mothered and mentored many throughout her time as a teacher, journalist, and nurse; she also mentored many spiritually. She held several titles, but the most important to her was “disciple of Christ.”
Although we are now left with the pain of her absence, the life she lived stands as an example to us all: to love our neighbors the way Jesus loves us, to show unconditional compassion and kindness to one another, and to always trust God with the risks we take to better our lives and the lives of the people we love. Myslie will be greatly missed, as she was loved by many: her children, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family, colleagues, and students. And though we desired the privilege of witnessing her enjoy the fruits of her labor, she is experiencing the joy of a retirement that we could not possibly imagine on this Earth.
“‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.’” — Revelation 21:4
