Naomi Jean Crowe Haight passed away at her home in Round Rock, TX on October 31, 2024. She had been in remission since 1995 following a bout with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, although the disease had a long-lasting effect on her immune system.
Naomi, known to everyone as “Noni,” was born in Austin, Texas, on January 14th, 1932, the ninth child born to William Marshall and Pearl Ann Crowe.
She attended Matthews Elementary and Alan Junior High schools before graduating from Austin High School in 1950. While in high school, she worked part-time at the T.H. Williams Company. Noni was then employed at the main library at The University of Texas and at the Department of Public Safety.
She married William P. “Pete” Haight on July 14, 1950, at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary Chapel. During the following 21 years as a Marine Corps wife, she was always active in the Marine Officer Wives’ Clubs. She was an active member of the Mothers of Twins Club, a den mother, a board member of the Pearl City Hawaii Elementary School and served as a volunteer on the 5th floor (pre and post op) at the Seton Medical Center in Austin for 18 years.
Her special passion was gardening, which she indulged wherever she lived, spoiling her grandchildren and many dachshunds. She also enjoyed almost all forms of music, ranging from classical to contemporary. She was also interested in all forms of antiques, and at one point, she completed a semester of adult study classes of antiques at the University of Texas at Austin.
Naturally creative, she enjoyed art and was a charter member of the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas in Austin. She also created art with pastels, oils, and acrylics.
Noni was preceded in death by her husband Pete; her parents William Marshall and Pearl Ann Crowe; her brothers Travis, Nolan, Jack, Earl, Marvin; and sisters Lorene Nolen, Lois Kuehner, and Betty Jo Crowe. She is survived by her children: Brian (wife Diane) and their son Ian Patrick; Gordon Randolph “Randy” (wife Terri) and daughter Victoria “Tori” (husband Matthew Byler); and Steven Harden (partner Nancy Stevenson) and her daughter Allie Stevenson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as a multitude of friends.
A member of First United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Texas, she was an enthusiastic volunteer in the church office. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the FUMC choir, the American Cancer Society, or the Williamson County Humane Society.
She will be cremated, and pastors Reverend John Crowe and Brad Brittain will preside over a memorial service in her honor. The service will take place at FUMC Round Rock on November 16th, 2024 @ 1 o’clock, where her family will receive visitors in the church foyer. Her ashes will be placed later in the Haight family bench next to her husband Pete by the immediate family at Cook Walden Memorial Hill Park.
