Jody and LaDair - Please know Jimmy and I's thoughts are with you and you entire family during this tough time. Your mom had a long, full life that has left you with many fond memories. Both you and your mom have a fighting spirit - hold this close to you as working through her passing.

Jody and LaDair, and all of your extended family have my heartfelt sympathy.  Blessings to you as you have said goodbye to a wonderful woman and mother.  May your thoughts be filled with the cheerful memories of her life and love for all of you.

Nev was a fixture in the RRISD Special Education Department for many years.  She kept us on our toes and made sure we did things correctly.  Her gifts throughout the years were cherished, from the ceramic African violet pots to the dishcloths she so lovingly knitted.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family members during this time.  She was quite a lady!

I knew Nevalene from many years at RRISD, first in her capacity as registrar at RRHS. I was the still-wet-behind-the-ears LSSP at CDF and every year the entire counseling staff would be in a panic because it was time to send 8th grade schedules to Nev, and they HAD to be right! She demanded perfection, and usually got it, too. But my most cherished memory is from Christmas after Nev joined SpEd. Every year our SpEd group did a gift exchange, and this year Nev had brought the most adorable ceramic reindeer that she had made herself. These were the gift to have and they must have changed hands 5 or 6 times. I was the one lucky enough to wind up with them and they always have a cherished place in my home and heart. I just set them out on Sunday, thinking hard of Nevalene, but not knowing she had passed. I know she was looking down on me and the Reindeer and smiling. She was an amazing woman and my prayers are with her family and friends.

I worked with Nev for many years at RRISD, and missed her when she retired.  I still think fondly of her today.  I'm sending thankful prayers that she is at peace.  Sincerely,

Dearest Family of Nevalene,
I send you my sincerest condolences on the loss of your mother, grandmother and sister.  To those of you who were a friend of Nevalene, I share in your grief.  I met Nevalene in 1975 when her daughter, Wendy, and I became friends.  Nevalene always welcomed me and made me feel like one of the family, as I didn't get away with anything that the others would.  My favorite time to be at her home was while she was in the kitchen, I would sit on the other side of the bar and she would tell me what she was doing and why.  Then, after the meal was complete, I was able to sample yet another fabulous meal!  I have never known anyone that could fry up some chicken as she did!  When Wendy started to drive, she would send us to the egg farm and we thought we were really hot stuff!  Nevalene knew of my ornery ways, and where most mothers would ban their children from such, Nevalene always looked at me and without saying a word, I knew I had better mind my “p's and q”s”.  Not once, did Wendy and I think about sneaking out of Nev's house!  After our graduation in 1978, Wendy and I continued to be close friends, but as time went on as life often does, we lost contact.  I was having a baby and Wendy was following Roger as he worked towards his doctorate.  There were many times that I went over to visit with Glyn and Nevalene without having an invitation, and was always welcome.  There would be periods of time that I wouldn't see her, but when I did, it was never awkward as she always had some stories to tell and news to catch up on.  Nevalene took me under her wing in the nineties and taught me how to be a registrar at Forest Creek Elementary when the previous registrar left suddenly and I had no one to assist me.  She cheered me on the entire training period and was a tough cookie when I made a mistake.  One of the things I loved about this woman was you got exactly what you saw; I never had to guess where she was coming from.  One of my favorite memories was just a few years ago while visiting Wendy and Roger, we took Nevalene to the HEB+, she was in her motor cart and I was so excited to just be back in an HEB.  Well, Miss Nev was not to be left behind, she took the lead in the cart and almost ran over me when I got in her way!  I had to do a slow trot just to keep up with her!  This was a determined woman!  Oh, I smile just thinking about her.  When we would chat long distance, me in Utah and she in Texas, if she was done, with the conversation you sure knew it!  I loved this woman with all my heart.  I spoke with her on the evening of November 17th just days before her passing, and she was sharper than ever, but I could hear in her voice that she was growing very weak.  I knew she was getting tired of the “fight”, but she kept her dignity and wits.  Wendy would tell me how good she looked even though she was so sick, and that did not surprise me.  Such a pretty lady from the start.  Our memories of this woman will hold strong, as she was strong.  I am certain she has been embraced and in the arms of our sweet Jesus and am grateful that she suffers no more.  Nevalene told me during one of phone calls this past year, that she couldn't have done this illness without her family.  I seriously doubt that, because she was such a pillar of strength, but I do know that everything they did for her was so appreciated. She was extremely proud of Jody, Wendy, Paula and Larry, not to mention her grandchildren.  She will live on through them.  

Rest in Peace Nevalene, and know always that you are loved!

Our thoughts are with all of you as you come to terms with Nev's passing after her long battle.  Take comfort in knowing that she no longer suffers.  Nev was one of the strongest people I have ever known.  She was a joy to work with and to be around.  What I can tell you is that you might mess with George or with Doc but everyone knew, you didn't mess with Nev.  She only did it one way, the right way.  I still to this day, start school every year the only way I know now, the Nev way.  I shall always treasure her friendship and the things she taught me over all the years we worked together.

Larry, Paula, Jody and Wendy, I just want to say that I don't think it is possible to honor one's Mother any more than the four of you have since she fell ill and even before that. She was always so proud of each of you and all that you did to make her life easier and joyful. May God comfort your hearts at this time. We Love you, Billie JoAnn and Ann

All - We are so sorry to hear about your mother's passing.  She was an interesting woman and I'm glad that I got to know her a bit.  I'm glad that you got to spend time with her before she passed away.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Jody - Lori and I were sorry to hear of your mom's passing. We use the blanket she knitted for us as a wedding present all the time. She raised a great daughter. Thinking of you and the rest of your family these days.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of Nevalene's family and loved ones.  She contributed so much to all of our lives.  She was amazing and never will be forgotten!

So sorry to hear of Nevalene's passing. Her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Always knew that if you wanted it done right the first time, then Nevalene was the one to call!!
