Ngan Van Nguyen was born in 1935 to Mr. and Mrs. Can Van Nguyen in Bui Chu, Vietnam into a family of two brothers and one sister. Ngan learned hard work and dedication by harvesting sea salt after school with his father.

These traits followed him from Vietnam to America, where he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. In 1954, at the age of 19, Ngan married his first love Ve Nguyen. Throughout his life, Ngan was a devout Catholic with strong faith. Shortly after the wedding, the newlyweds migrated from North to South Vietnam. Before settling in Sao Mai, Ngan resided in various South Vietnamese cities, occupying himself as a fisherman, farmer, fish sauce brewer, and taxi driver. In Sao Mai, Ngan and Ve completed their family consisting of seven children, four sons, and three daughters.

In 1975, Ngan fled with his family to America as a refugee through Guam, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, settling in the small town of Fulton, New York dedicating his life with love and devotion to his family. In Fulton, Ngan worked hard to provide for his family and to layout a hopeful future for his children. Ngan kept up his dedication to family and friends throughout his life by helping other Vietnamese settle in America.

In 2004, Ngan relocated to Austin, Texas to be near his children. After the passing of his wife, Ngan remarried in 2009 to the wonderful Katelyn Do, with whom he shared his final days.

His children’s success is due to Ngan’s devotion and influence. Ngan is remembered as a great, loving, and devoted father, grandfather and husband. Ngan leaves behind a legacy of thirty-one grandchildren and two great -grandchildren. His final resting place will be in Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
