March 22, 1929 – April 22, 2025
Mrs. Maria Ngo Thi Bich Hoa, 96, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at Brookdale Beckett Meadows in Austin, Texas.
Born in 1929 in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, Mrs. Hoa spent her early years on the family’s Ap Suoi ranch. It was wartime era, with all the men in the family away fighting for Vietnam’s independence, she and her three sisters courageously defended their ranch, standing firm against all attempts by the communist to evict them.
In 1950, she married Mr. Dao Nhat Tien in Ha Noi. Following the Geneva Agreement of 1954, which divided Vietnam, she and her husband made the decision to move to the then non-communist South, settling in the Tan Binh district near Saigon. She devoted herself to raising their children while managing multiple businesses to support her family, enabling her husband to focus on his political efforts for a free and independent Vietnam.
After the fall of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975, the family fled to the United States, seeking refuge in Taylor, Texas. Mrs. Hoa worked as a seamstress to help provide for her family. In 1976, she and her husband moved to Austin, Texas, ensuring their children could pursue higher education at the University of Texas at Austin. Through her sacrifices and determination, all her children became accomplished professionals in engineering, medicine, information technology, and government service.
Mrs. Hoa leaves behind a profound legacy through her 12 children (including two adopted), 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family.
