Nuria was born on August 9, 1936 in Santiago, Cuba to Enrique and Teresa Maria Marimon. She grew up in Santiago and was married there to Fernando Jesus Lopez. They were married for 64 years until Fernando’s passing in 2020.
After marriage Nuria devoted herself to raising her family, and they lived in Cuba until emigrating to the United States in 1967. Once in the U.S., the family lived in New York City before moving to Houston, Texas in 1970. After her youngest entered school, she worked for several years for Alief Independent School District in Houston in the school cafeterias where she truly enjoyed being a ‘lunch lady’ and interacting with students.
In later years Nuria traveled the world accompanying Fernando on his overseas work assignments. Together they lived in Venezuela, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and Singapore. Eventually they returned to the U.S. and built their dream home in Port Aransas, Texas filled with many beautiful things from their travels.
Nuria’s favorite hobby was cooking and trying new recipes; she loved to make Cuban food and share it with family and friends. Above all, she cherished time with her family, especially holidays and extended visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Nuria E. Lopez, Lourdes J. Lopez, and Fernando E. Lopez (and their spouses); grandchildren Francisco, Phillip, Rebecca and Daniel; great-grandchildren Grayson, Parker, Adalynn and Giselle; and sisters Maria Teresa and Rosa Elena. She was preceded in death by her husband Fernando J. Lopez, her parents Enrique and Teresa Maria Marimon, and brothers Enrique and Jorge.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Hospice Austin for their compassionate care during the last few months. And we are also deeply grateful for the kindness and dedication of Nuria’s caregivers Anita Huffman and Zara Basharat.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm, Thursday March 19, 2026 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas with a rosary service beginning at noon. Funeral services will be conducted after the rosary, beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a committal service in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
