O Joseph Maduneme, also known as Mr. Madu, passed away at the age of 60 on Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at Seton Medical Center. Joseph was born and raised in Nigeria before moving to the United States in 1982 to pursue a double-major in architecture and construction management from Louisiana State University, where he would receive his Bachelors in 1994. In 2006, he would graduate with his Masters in Science in Geography from Texas State University. In 2009 he received his Masters in Education from Lamar University . Joseph was a loving father and grandfather, a passionate teacher, and a devout Catholic.
Mr. Madu taught at Cedar Park High School since 1999 where he would dedicate his time to bettering his students. Mr. Madu led after school programs for engineering, drafting, and Skills-USA that would go on to win numerous national competitions for a number of years. In 2010, Mr. Madu would start a Nonprofit, Changing Expectations Corporation, to bring STEM to underrepresented students.
Mr. Madu was honored with numerous recognitions for his excellence in education including teaching excellence awards received for 5 consecutive years between 2013 and 2017. He also received recognition from Stanford University and Philadelphia University for having the most impact on their incoming freshmen classes.
Mr. Madu was a devoted Catholic. He became one of the first Africans to join the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Madu joined the youth ministry and would continue teaching future generations about his faith.
Joseph was survived by three sons and three grandchildren who adored him.
Family, friends, and anyone impacted by Mr. Madu are invited to join us at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 8th, 2019 for a vigil service and Rosary at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North, Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 9th, 2019 at St. William Catholic Church, 620 Round Rock W Drive, Round Rock, TX 78681. Committal services will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
