Otto Francis Salcher, Jr. passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 in Lakeway, Texas at 101 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen Perkins Salcher; his parents, Otto F. Salcher, Sr. and step mother, Oral Eddie Falls Salcher; mother, Venetta Shelp Salcher Hayes; his brother, George N. Salcher and his son-in-law, LCDR James C. Radney, US Navy.
Mr. Salcher is survived by his daughters, Linda S. Endres and husband, Nicholas of Galveston, Texas; Cindy S. Radney Ture and husband Kenneth of Lakeway, Texas; and their sons, Luke Ture and wife Shannon of Austin, Texas; Derek Radney and wife Sally of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Evan Ture and wife Dahlia of Buda, Texas and 7 great grand children.
Otto is, also, survived by his brother, Gerald E. Salcher and wife Billie of Tulsa, Oklahoma and sister-in-law, Ms. Janie Perkins of Lampasas, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Otto was born in Elgin, Texas and graduated from Luling High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin before entering the US Army. He was then transferred to the US Army Air Corps and eventually the US Army Air Force as a 2nd LT. He was certified to fly many air craft, but spent most of his flight time in B-17’s, B-25’s and B-26’s.
After completion of his military service, he settled in Austin. He retired after a long career from the Austin National Bank in 1983. He and his family were members of Hyde Park Christian Church, Austin, Texas. He joined the Civitan Club after retirement and especially enjoyed working with this group of men. One of his favorite volunteer events while in the Civitan Club was the Special Olympics. He enjoyed swimming, boating and water skiing. He was a member of the Bank’s ski club. He built his own boat and enjoyed taking the family on fishing trips. He also had a love for cars and enjoyed his four Studebakers, especially his ’57 Golden Hawk and ’63 Avanti.
The family wants to especially thank Susan Spiller, a certified nursing assistant, for her loving care and assistance during his last five years.
The visitation for Otto will be held Sunday, September 29, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Services will be held at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks. Burial will be held at a later date.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, Dad, Grand Dad and Great Grand Dad. He will be
greatly missed by his family, extended family and friends.
