She was the youngest child of Dr. Alvin G and Nola M (Hohertz) Taylor. She was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. On July 15th, 1960, she married Sam Roy Powell, and made a family with him and their three daughters in Poughkeepsie, New York, and the Austin, Texas area. Mrs. Powell was a devoted wife, a cherished mother, a dedicated teacher, a generous friend, and an avid traveler.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both brothers. She is survived by her husband, Sam R Powell; her daughter, Melissa Broeren (Jon Broeren); her daughter, Suzanne Powell; her daughter, Laura Nieto (Jimmy Nieto); and her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Clayton Nieto (Ariel Nieto, Kylie, Aubrey, Blakely and Brody), Brice Nieto (Caitlyn Scribner-Nieto and William Scribner), Sarah Nieto, Sabrina Nieto, Krysta Broeren, Jacob Broeren, and Sophia Nieto.
