

Pete “Boy" De La Rosa, Jr., was born January 17, 1952 in Taylor, Texas, the son of Pedro Sr., and Manuela (Cruz) De La Rosa. He passed from this life August 20, 2021 at his home in Temple, Texas, at the age of 69.
Pete had lived in Temple for the last year and a half, moving there from Austin. Pete was a United States Army veteran and a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 31 years of dedicated service. He served as a Letter Carrier from August 21, 1982 to September 30, 2013. Pete also worked as a Funeral Service Assistant for Cook-Walden Funeral Homes. He enjoyed playing softball, dancing, music and yardwork. He was a craftsman builder and loved to Bar-b-que his signature fajitas, sausage and hamburgers. His favorite pastime was spending quality time with his family and friends.
He and Yolanda Benavides were united in marriage on February 24, 1972 in Austin. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro De La Rosa, Sr and Manuela Cruz De La Rosa; brother, Antonio (Tony) De La Rosa; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margarito Benavides Sr. and Matilde Benavides and three brothers-in-law, Margarito Benavides, Jr., Jesse Medina, Sr. and Alfredo “Fred" Garcia. Great Nephew In Law Benson Briseño.
He is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda “Judy" De La Rosa; son, Michael De La Rosa and wife Christine, and daughter, Michelle Ann De La Rosa; grandchildren, Antonio Ray De La Rosa, Ashley Marie De La Rosa, Matthew Vincent Alvarez and Tariq Tristan Johnson; great-grandson, Andrew Ray De La Rosa; siblings, Domingo De La Rosa, Linda Flores and husband Richard, Margaret Finley and husband Curtis, Stella Santa Cruz and Benita Lopez and husband Joe; Three beautiful Goddaughters Bianca Marisela Castro, Elizabeth Lynn Castillo and Ashley Michelle Villarreal. Life long friend/brother James Reed; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The De La Rosa Family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Amber Mertz, RN and Stephen Hanna, CNA and Chaplin Luis Rivera for the special care and compassion they had for Pete from Kindred Hospice.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pflugerville. Mr. De La Rosa will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
