Phong Minh Nguyen

Phong Minh Nguyen was born June 11, 1970 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. In 1977 his parents, Hung and Thu Nguyen immigrated to Evansville, IN with Phong and his 4 siblings. The family of 7 eventually settled and made roots in Texas. As a young child, Phong grew up in Seadrift and Rockport, TX before moving to Austin.

No matter where the family was, Phong was fast to make friends and formed lifelong friendships everywhere he lived. No matter what the distance, he still remained close to many and will be remembered as a true and caring friend who always put others before himself.

Above all, he loved his family most. Phong helped his younger brother, Hiep by managing his crawfish restaurant for 15 years. If you came to visit him there, he always had a funny and interesting story to share. In the past years, he was able to leave the hustle and bustle of the restaurant and enjoy a more relaxed and simple life, by working with his older brother, Phuong in seafood delivery services. Phong put his heart and soul into everything, not only because of his character but because of his love for family. When he wasn’t hard at work, he spent his time at home with his oldest brother, Dung and crafting his passions in collectibles and sports memorabilia. He was a romantic at heart and his older sister, Huyen Nga understood that the most. She forever was his protector.

He is survived by his loving parents, Hung and Thu Nguyen; his older sister Huyen Nga Nguyen and brother-in-law Long; older brother Dung Nguyen; older brother Phuong Nguyen and sister-in-law Rachny; younger brother Hiep Nguyen and sister-in-law Quyen and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts. He was proud Godfather to his nephew, Leo. To his mother, Thu, he will always be remembered by his nickname Ròm. He brought tremendous joy to those who were fortunate to know him and will be missed dearly.

A visitation for Phong will be held Friday, April 14, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church, 1107 E. Yager Lane, Austin, Texas 78753. A committal service will occur Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
