Bob was born on October 23, 1927 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Henry E Beverly and Florence Leona Cambron Beverly and his cherished sister, Karleta born 10 years later.
Bob graduated high school in 1945, married his sweetheart, Anita “Dolly” Goss in January 1946 and enlisted in the US Army in June 1946. Then a son was born in 1947.
Bob’s military service allowed him to travel to many countries as an equipment operator with the Engineers attached to the 65th Field Artillery. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the states and began his career in the retail clothing industry.
Bob was employed with Jack Morton (Plotsky) Store on Congress in downtown Austin, Texas. A few years later, Bob and a partner opened Beverly Waterman Shop in Allandale Center selling clothing and accessories.
Bob decided to change jobs and found employment in the insurance industry, however quickly he returned to his favorite career, selling men’s clothing. For decades Bob serviced the north Austin area at The Men’s Warehouse, retiring in the late 1990’s. Bob had always been a very dapper - dashing dresser and he truly enjoyed sharing this knack with customers and family.
Bob and Dolly’s son, Robert Earl, was born in January 1947 and Bob’s sister, Karleta, had a daughter, Kim many years later, to which Bob was like a second father to. Kim enjoyed her time with Bob because of his abundant generosity in all things, playing ball in the yard with her, riding the tractor in Elgin and allowing her to play in the boxes in which the worm breeding was happening. Bob always encouraged his nieces and nephews to visit with him.
Bob utilized his green thumb with his vegetable gardening, flower growing and tree planting. In the front yard of his home were oak tree, maple tree, peach tree, crape myrtles and cedar trees brought from Elgin. It was a delight for him to see things grow and flourish, and was expressed in the same as he nurtured his family.
Bob’s home was always open for family holiday celebrations or helping an ailing relative. He wanted family and friends to surround him so he could express the love he held for them. Another of his treasures are the friends he found at Westside Church of Christ. He, also, cherished having an entire neighborhood of cats, to feed, to pet, to enjoy and keep him company after the loss of his ‘Dolly’ in 2008 and Robert Earl in 1996.
The caregivers that had the privilege of helping Bob during his transitions have memorialized how Sweet, Kind and Caring he was, as he repeatedly apologized for making their day difficult while caring for him when he felt so bad.
Yes, our world is smaller since Bob is no longer with us. He will be missed.
