

Robert Gatewood Brydson Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was a devoted member of the Austin and Pflugerville communities, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Austin, Texas, on August 23, 1942, Bob was a true native Austinite. He attended Ridgetop Elementary and University Junior High before graduating from Austin High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Robert’s warm personality and active life earned him many names to those who loved him, including Bob, Bobby, Big Bobby, Daddy, Mr. Bob, Uncle Bobby, Gatewood, Honey, Babe, and "Big Pop" to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob began his professional life with Aetna Life and Casualty, a career that took him and his family from Houston to Albuquerque, and finally to Salt Lake City, Utah. He returned home to Austin with his family in 1978 and began working for the State of Texas Department of Water Resources, over time the name changed to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). After 31 years he retired on January 31, 2008.
A man of deep faith, Bob was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he worshipped alongside his beloved wife, Delores. After relocating to Pflugerville, Texas, he poured his heart into community service through the Pflugerville Lions Club. Known for his generosity and warmth, he frequently cooked for club events, served in numerous leadership roles, and ultimately held the position of president from 1998 to 1999. Through this work, he formed many cherished friendships. Through the Lions Club he became passionate about supporting local schools and students, championing the Lions Club scholarship programs that opened doors for countless young people. In recognition of his enduring impact, he was a Lifetime Member and honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Humanitarian Fellow Award for Lions Club International in 2025.
Bob was an avid and dedicated fan of Texas Longhorn football and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting dove and deer with his friends and family where he served as chief cook while at the various leases that he hunted on.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Delores Brydson. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Jennifer Brydson Lucas; Tammy Gorham (Sean); Robert “Casey” Brydson (Janie) and Tanya Parks. Bob was a proud "Big Pop" to his eight grandchildren: Bonnie Cameron Lucas; Jackson, Pepper, and Beau Brydson; Zac and Sydney Parks; Ryan Gorham (Vanessa), Ashley Clampitt (Sean), Jackson, He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Gus, Jacie, and Parker Rose.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Gatewood Brydson Sr. and Lucille Pauline Turner Brydson, his brother Donald Wayne Brydson, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held this Friday, December 12, 2025 at 2:00pm
