He was born March 18, 1955 to Bob and Mary Hill in Muskegon, Michigan. He is survived by Melissa, his wife of 30 years, his son John, daughter Audrey, mother Mary, father Bob, brother Rick and his wife Laretta, and sister Diane and her husband Mark Aamodt.
Bob had tremendous faith in God and chose to serve Him in everything he did. He was a loving husband and father, devoted to his family and would do anything for them. He was always a step ahead in thinking of what they needed, before they even knew they needed it, and how he could provide for them. He poured himself into everything that he did. His drive and determination to serve was paramount to his entire life.
At a young age Bob was nicknamed “Bobby Fix-It” by a close family friend because he could fix anything! He had a mechanical mind that loved to figure out how things worked. One day his father Bob came home to find the engine of the new snow mobile disassembled on the ground. When asked what he was doing, he told his dad he just needed to know how it worked! Of course, he reassembled it.
Bob was always talking with folks and upon hearing a need, he would immediately work to solve their problem, suggest the solution, and let them know that he had just what they needed, and would be over to help them fix it. There was very little that he could not figure out or fix.
In 1967, the Hill family acquired a cabin on the Pere Marquette River in Baldwin, Michigan. It was a wonderful place for a boy to fish, tube the river, hunt, drive motorcycles, snow mobiles and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. It was a highlight of his life and a highlight of family trips to Michigan.
Bob also played Center for the State Championship Big Reds high school football team in Muskegon, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and made many lifelong friends. One of those lifelong friends was instrumental in introducing him to the love of his life!
Bob co-founded the prosperous company Brandt & Hill, Inc. which served over 500 corporate clients for 20 years. “Brandt & Hill, Inc. was a manufacturing systems integrator providing manufacturers and warehouses turn-key planning, design, hardware, installation and post installation services as well as preventative maintenance programs.” Bob was instrumental in the design and installation of conveyor systems for IBM Computer, Dell Computer, and many other companies across the country.
While work was important, family was his charge. He gave his time to his family as a leader and coach.
Being a Boy Scout himself, Bob dove right into being a Boy Scout leader to his son and a great group of young boys. He worked with John from kindergarten through high school and encouraged him to successfully achieve his Eagle Scout rank. Together they went on many camp outs, Eagle projects, and brisket cook-offs.
Bob also volunteered to coach Audrey’s 4 year old’s soccer team - when he knew nothing about soccer! He was just what those young girls needed…a silly and encouraging coach! He gave them several seasons of foundational skills, which led to a long successful soccer career for Audrey through the 11th grade.
Bob had a passion for the AWANA program teaching young children to hide God’s word in their hearts, beginning at Hillcrest Baptist Church when his children were young. Later, the kindergarteners of Great Hills Baptist Church also enjoyed Bob’s optimism and enthusiasm as an AWANA Director (with Audrey) to learn and memorize scripture. Memories of his “enthusiasm” still makes us smile today!
Most recently Bob had been working for a wonderful Christ professing company, Precision Warehouse Design. His whole family has been blessed by the support of the owners and the entire PWD team.
Bob fought a courageous battle with cancer and although the battle is over, the victory has been won!
1 Corinthians 15:54-55 states “when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death where is your victory? O Death where is your sting?’” Our victory is in Jesus and Bob is now “standing in the presence of HIS glory, blameless with great joy!” We rejoice with Bob! He will be greatly missed on this earth.
