Robert Lee Ward

Bob was born on September 6, 1931 in Columbus Ohio, to Edmund L and Rose A Ward. As an infant during the Great Depression he and his parents traveled from Ohio to Washington looking for work. They lived in Walla Walla, Washington and eventually moved on to Estacada, Oregon. He met and married his high school sweetheart Maurine E. Schubert in May of 1952. He had a quiet sense of humor that would often catch you by surprise.

Bob was drafted into the US Army on Nov of 1952 and spent 28 years serving his country. He served as a truck driver, helicopter mechanic, tank commander, technical inspector and 1st sergeant. He served two tours in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal and numerous other awards. He and his Sweetheart and their three sons did a lot of traveling across the United States and Europe. While stationed in Cook Barracks Germany for 3 ½ years they toured many other countries in Europe. As he transitioned from the Army to retirement he completed his Bachelor’s degree. After the Army and college he worked as an instructor and retired from Central Texas College. He then worked for Lockheed Martin on the Apache helicopter for the Army still serving his country. In retirement he continued to serve his community volunteering with the Austin Rose Society, Pond Society, Zilker Garden. He ushered for the Paramount and State Theater and The Long Center. He was a member of Purple Heart Chapter 1919 and the VFW.

Bob made friends with everyone and everywhere he went. But his greatest accomplishment is his marriage to the love of his life Maurine for 69 years and his three sons. Bob was proceeded by his parents Edmund and Rose his younger sister Louise his granddaughter Kendra Ann. He is survived by his wife Maurine his three sons Robert Jr. his wife Celinda, Bradley his wife Fatima, Kevin his wife Lisa. They have 10 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

All who knew Bob will miss his kindness, friendliness and subtle sense of humor.
