He came into this world on September 14, 1954 at Fort Crowder, MO, the son of Roger H. Nitchman Sr and Mintie L. Hobbs.
Roger graduated from Silverton, OR. After he graduated he went straight into the US Army, following his father’s footsteps. Roger was stationed in Germany and Greece. Roger was asked if he wanted to go to West Point however he declined as he wanted to fight for our country. He also served in Viet Nam. He was in the US Army for close to 8 years and moved to Texas.
Roger was a peace officer in Texas for four different departments for 17 years. He was a detective and was a SWAT member. He moved to MO as project manager for a construction company for a number of years. Then he medically retired moved back to Texas and met his wife. Roger married Jan on December 5, 2006.
Roger was one of the Charter member that started the American Legion Kerlin-Lyerly Post 154 in Pflugerville, TX. He was the JAG until this year. He enjoyed watching the Post grow. They all grew together not only as fellow soldiers but truly became family.
During retirement Roger enjoyed many different interest computers and guns, spoiling his fur babies and his family life. We’ll remember his kindness, sense of humor and love for all his family and dear friends. We will miss him dearly.
Roger joined his father in Heaven and leaves behind the love of his life Janet E. H. Nitchman, his mom Mary Lou and step dad Bob Cross, Lebanon, OR. His brother Charles and his wife Celia, Richmond, VA. Sisters Carol Nitchman , Sweet Home, OR and Linda Nitchman, Salem, OR., Aunt Madelene Nitchman, Tucson, AZ, and Aunt Martie Booth, Silverton, OR. Sister-in- law Mona Symancyk husband Jerry, Powder Springs, GA. Two brother in laws Patrick Hill and Jeffrey Smith, Victoria, TX. Two step children April-Michelle Martin, Bristol, NH and Gregory Durkee, Newport, NH. Adopted son/nephew Justin Salls, Okemha, OK. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren also cousins in many parts of our country.
Roger was a true soldier who loved his family and our country to the end.
We will have a celebration of life and near the end of March early April in Pflugerville. His ashes will be buried in Silverton, OR next to his father.
