Ron attended Shorewood High School in Shorewood, Wisconsin, and studied Economics at the University of Wisconsin. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Whitehurst DE634 and cherished his shipmates. He married Joanne Fryjoff on December 27, 1958 in Milwaukee Wisconsin where his sons Michael and John were born. Ron was employed by IBM in Milwaukee in 1961, and was transferred to Houston and then to Austin in 1967. He retired from IBM as an Engineering Manager after 30 years of service. Ron was involved in youth programs as the boys were growing up. He was a member and officer of Austin Woods and Waters. He volunteered as Vice President on the Board of Directors at Amplify Credit Union for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and talking about them. He also liked water skiing, downhill skiing, boating, and being at the lake house which was his “happy place”. He enjoyed coffee with friends at the lake. Ron also loved to fix things and work on projects in the garage.
Ron was a loving, caring, generous and intelligent man who deeply loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Naomi Picard. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; son, Michael (Kimberly), son John (Melissa); 4 grandchildren: Colin Gregg (Daisy), Kayla Gregg, Garrett Gregg (Kaitlin), and Audrey Gregg.
Services for Ron will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, 14501 North Interstate 35, Austin, Texas 78660, on Friday, February 16, 2024 with visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial and reception. Pallbearers are: Colin and Garrett Gregg, Darren and David Picard, Ty and Jimmy Barho. Honorary Pallbearers are: Jimmy Barho Sr., Arthur and Marvin Gray.
