Ron grew up in San Antonio, Texas and as a young man was introduced into artistic endeavors by his father. Ron took art and design classes at Central Catholic High School and enrolled in the school of architecture at The University of Texas at Austin. At UT he spent three years studying architecture, art history and design. However, this was 1963 when the computer was becoming a new phenomenon. He became fixated on this new technology. He ended his university studies with a degree in mathematics and a job as a software engineer with NASA.
During the ensuing years he was dedicated to his computer career which included developing computer systems and forming his own computer company. He continued experimenting with photography and oil painting when the time allowed.
Ron retired from HP/Compaq and the computer industry in 2004. He moved to Austin where he had a sunset view of Lake Travis. He continued his passion for photography and painting. He loved traveling, playing golf, shooting craps, and sipping on cold Lone Star beer while smoking a brisket. After the day’s activities he was known to relax with a very dry Beefeater gin martini. He was a wonderful cook and made the best meatballs that rivaled any Italian restaurant. He was a loyal Longhorn fan following the football, golf and baseball teams. His traveling took him to many beautiful destinations from Acapulco to Italy and many places in between. He was part of an annual golf tournament in Nevada where he is in the Danny Noonan Invitational Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Theriot Maspero, his daughters Shannon Maspero Steele and husband Daniel, Claire Maspero Palitza, and stepdaughter Elise Butos and husband Peter; grandchildren, Josephine Palitza, Jessica Palitza, Andrew Steele, Natalie Goldman and Sophia Goldman. Ron is also survived by sister Marguerite (Margie) Maspero McMillan and husband David, brother Frank Otto Maspero, Jr. and wife Sally; mother of his daughters Elaine Pritchett Maspero, as well as his nieces, nephews and their children.
He is preceded in death by his parents Francis Otto Maspero, Sr. and Josephine Silva Maspero. He leaves behind and is preceded in death by many friends and cousins who were like brothers and sisters but also his best friends throughout his life. Ron had a good life filled with love and family. He will be missed but never forgotten.
