She is survived by her husband Glen Richard to whom she has been married to for 64 years; her son, Craig Allen, daughter in law, Sheila residing in Kentfield, CA; son, Douglas Allen, daughter in law, Nona residing in Pflugerville, TX and Patrick Allen, daughter in law, Angie residing in Pleasanton, CA. Rosemary graduated from Annunciation High School, Detroit, Michigan on 6/9/46, She met the love of her life, Glen on a blind date in the winter of 1948. Glen and Rosemary were married on 7/2/49. In high school, her charm and fun-loving spirit earned her the nickname of the “hubba hubba” girl amongst her sorority sisters. She loved to dance. She was always the first one on the dance floor and the one still standing at the “last dance” Even in her later stages of Alzheimer’s, she would start tapping her toes when she heard the beat of just about any kind of music.
Rosemary and Glen raised their 4 children first in Royal Oak, Michigan and later, Huntington Woods, Michigan. In 1971, Glen’s job led the family to move to Cincinnati, OH, then Richardson,TX and finally back to Cincinnati, OH. With each move, Rosemary quickly endeared herself to every new neighbor she met, became active in the local welcome wagons and ended up forming special bonds with people who would eventually become lifelong friends. As the saying goes, “she never met a stranger”. It was her love of people combined with her flair for fashion and style that led Rosemary to a successful career in women’s retail fashion. She was such a natural for selling women’s clothing that eventually she took over as manager of the Casual Corner in the Beechmont Mall in Anderson Township, OH, Her sales record turned that store into one of the chain’s most successful and eventually earned her an all-expense paid trip to New York. It was a trip of lifetime, all for what she loved doing: working with people and selling fashion. After retiring from the retail business, Rosemary took a job as the receptionist at the Michael and CO Beauty Salon in Anderson Township, OH. Once again, Rosemary’s warm and welcoming personality made the reception area the social hub of the salon. She quickly established herself as the “salon mom” to the employees and patrons alike.
Throughout her life, Rosemary was active in her church groups and community organizations. She loved to get involved. Rosemary was a great friend who loved people and whom all her friends loved back. She loved trying new things. She loved “going out on the town” and she loved the beach. She was a loving wife who always looked to Glen as her bedrock. And, she was a mother who lived for her children. She wanted only the best for them. She hung on every word they had to say and loved hearing about every little detail in their lives. Even as she pursued her career or took on civic responsibilities, she was first and foremost, a mom. She will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; this may be done at www.alz.org
