Rosemary Walgreen, 95, died with peace, grace, and dignity on August 11, 2016, in Round Rock. Born Rosemary Metzger on March 9, 1921, in Lafayette, IN, Rosemary lived for 30 years near her daughters in Breakaway Park, moving to Wyoming Springs Memory Care in 2013.
Family was most important to her; she embraced technology and spent countless hours researching genealogy and documenting family history in digital scrapbooks. Crafting of all kinds was a passion that resulted in everything from intricate needle art to prayer shawls to doll clothes. Her 25-year career with Purdue University Athletics instilled a passion for the Boilermakers; the Walgreen family room was “game day central” during football seasons.
Rosemary was a charter member of Round Rock Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she edited the newsletter in the church’s early years, served as the church librarian, and was active in the Disciples Women’s Ministry and Handcrafters Ministry.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Ethel Benson Metzger, brother Richard Metzger, and husband Robert Walgreen. Surviving are brother Jim Metzger of Spokane, WA, daughter Linda Nieman and husband John of Cedar Park, daughter Susan Kessler and husband Jim of Cedar Park; grandchildren Erica Kessler Roberts and husband Trey of Saginaw TX, Jennifer Nieman of Round Rock, Jay Nieman and wife Ronnie of Leander, and Kerry Kessler of Indian Head, MD; great-grandchildren Logan, Anslee and Blaire Roberts; Christian Patty, Austin Curtis, and Savannah Nieman. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews.
Thanks to the caregivers at Wyoming Springs Memory Care and to the therapy team at Trinity Care Center who were helping her regain her strength after surgery for a broken hip.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 27, at 1:30pm at Round Rock Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 22 Chalice Way, Round Rock, TX 78665. Memorial gifts may be sent to Memorials, Round Rock Christian Church, at the above address.
