

Roy Gene Elder, born on July 30, 1937, the third child to Edward Elder and Sarah Lucille Skaggs Elder, embodied resilience, service, and faith throughout this life’s journey. Graduating from the original L.C. Anderson High School in 1955, he excelled both academically and athletically, leaving an indelible mark as a football player and serving in various leadership capacities within his class.
His commitment to duty led him to enlist in the United States Army, where he demonstrated valor and sacrifice, earning three esteemed certified commendations for the “Purple Heart Medal” for his bravery. Post-military, he continued his dedication to public service, contributing his talents to the United States Post Office and later the Veterans Administration Treasury Department, culminating in a well-deserved retirement. Additionally as, the proprietor of RGE Properties, he thrived as a respected entrepreneur, leaving a legacy of success.
A man of profound faith, Roy embraced Christianity from an early age, finding solace and purpose in his devotion to God. His active involvement in Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a van driver and usher, exemplified his unwavering commitment to helping others, embodying his life’s mission.
Roy’s departure is mourned by his loved ones, including his sisters, Ernestine Fowler of Austin, Texas and Marceline Sims of Chicago, Illinois; aunts Madeline Davis and Emma Finnen; uncle Marvin (Henry) Finnin; special niece Debbie Elder (Stanley) Lofton; best friend Ollie Edmondson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. Though he has left this earthly realm, Roy Gene Elder’s legacy of love, service, and faith will endure eternally in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation for Roy will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m., 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. A committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
