

Ruth Koughan Dorman went to her Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. She was born on December 31, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, to Walter and Ora Elerath. While attending UCLA, Ruth was an active member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, where she met William “Bill” Koughan. They married soon after graduation. Ruth was initially a homemaker in both Granada Hills and Pasadena, CA, where she was deeply involved in her children’s early education and activities. When the family moved to Houston in 1972, Ruth began selling Avon products. In 1974 the family moved to Austin. She joined National Instruments in 1979 and was part of their corporate family for thirteen years, during which Ruth studied for her MBA from St. Edwards University. Prior to that, she and Bill owned a Baskin Robbins franchise for two years. Ruth and Bill moved to Round Rock in 1993. Ruth became actively involved with the senior citizens community center, helping put on the Daffodil Festival for many years. She was a member of the mayor’s Round Rock Transportation Board and served as a Williamson County United Way board member and AARP past president. She also helped Bill with his private accounting practice until his passing in 1998.
In 2004 Ruth met her current husband Charles “Chuck” Dorman at a Round Rock Express baseball game. They loved to travel around the world together, and in recent years divided their time between Austin and Rockport, MA.
Ruth was known for her gentle and compassionate spirit. She was a loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. Her loving disposition will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched.
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, first husband Bill, sister Amy Weiland and husband Norb, brothers-in-law Patrick Koughan and Carl Rogers and his wife Mary, two nephews Michael Weiland and Bob Rogers (all from California), and stepdaughter Beverly Dorman of Pflugerville.
Ruth is survived by her husband Charles, sister-in-law Virginia Koughan of Riverside, CA, daughters Elaine Noland (David) of Goliad, Nancy Koughan (Bill Sandidge) of Decatur, GA, and son Jim Koughan (Stephanie) of Liberty Hill. She is also survived by stepson Jim Dorman and stepdaughters Linda Dorman (Robin Smedley) of Pflugerville, Nancy Norris (David) of Cedar Park, and Sandy White (Lee) of Columbia, MD. Ruth also leaves behind eight grandchildren - Amanda & Krista Noland, Dax, Delaney and Riley Koughan, Zachary & Courtney Norris, and Alexandra White. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A closed-casket viewing is scheduled for Friday evening, March 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Cook Walden/Capital Parks Memorial Chapel in Pflugerville. A rosary will begin at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass for Ruth will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Neenah Drive in North Austin. A lunch reception will follow.
